You can apply through Feb. 14, 2025.

The scholarship portfolio reviews take place on Nov. 9, 2024 and Feb. 8, 15, and 22, 2025. In-person and virtual portfolio reviews are available. If you visit Carthage before Feb. 17, please contact us at carthageart@al10669.com to set up an alternate review time and studio tour.

Note: students entering midyear should apply for a scholarship in November. The results of all interviews and portfolio reviews will be included in the applicant’s financial aid package.

Submit the Art Scholarship Form for Film and New Media

Portfolio Review

Film and New Media scholarships are awarded based upon a review of the applicant’s art portfolio by members of the Photography and Film and New Media faculty. You will discuss your artwork with a faculty member, answering questions about your ideas, materials, process, and aspirations as a developing filmmaker, screenwriter, or new media artist. If you are on campus for your review you will tour the program’s facilities.

  • Resume
  • One letter of recommendation (preferably from a teacher or mentor)
  • A portfolio of writing samples, art, and/or design:

The Writing Portfolio should include 1-3 writing samples. These may be writings from a course such as creative writing (screenwriting, short stories, poetry, etc.), history, or English, etc. The writings may be other than school assignments. Samples should be emailed to carthageart@al10669.com at least two weeks before your review date.

The Physical Portfolio: please, as much as possible, bring the actual works; digital art may be brought on a USB stick. You may also email URL links to projects (like films, videos, sound art, and new media projects) to carthageart@al10669.com

. The art/design work may be other than school assignments. The portfolio should consist of a minimum of 10 of your best artwork/design pieces in any media.

TIPS FOR SELECTING WORK FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO

Have an art teacher or mentor help you to choose your best and most representative works. If you have worked in a variety of media, please bring a breadth of work, such as drawing, painting, digital art, printmaking, video, photography, clay, metal, wood, etc. If you work in sketchbooks, please bring those to your review.
